Filigree and Bezoar Stones.

(Post in Preparation).

Bezoars are a subject in themselves - I don't intend to go into it at this point other than to present a few examples with filigree mounts.

A Bezoar Stone in a Gold Filigree setting.

Late 16th Century?

It seems that in the past these remarkable objects have been described as from Goa.

Hugo Miguel Crespo of the University of Lisbon states that there is no current evidence that Filigree was manufactured in Goa in the 17th and 18th Centuries.

33 x 25 mm.

The filigree technique on this bezoar appears very similar to that on the Vienna version above, suggesting possibly Cuttack, Orissa. India.
