Pair of 17th Century Gold Filigree Lidded Vases at Burghley.
10 cms tall x 6.5cms diam.
There is a 1690 Schedule which itemised an immense bequest from the
Countess of Devonshire to her daughter Anne, wife of John, 5th Earl of Exeter,
records: “gold things…..Two Gold Jarrs philligrin with Covers sett round the
Necks with Turquoise and Diamonds.”
_______________
Another pair of Silver Filigree Lidded Vases in The Hermitage, St Petersburg.
They say Goa - I think more likely European.
Height 21 cms.
Transferred from the States Services Cabinet to the Hermitage in 1789.
Hopefully I will find better quality images in due course.
