Several Cosmetics Caskets -17th Century possibly Schwabisch Gmund.

Mid 17th Century Silver Filigree Candlestick.

In the Bayerische National Museum.

Note the early use of the enamel panel - probably South German Schwabisch Gmund or Augsburg.

 No size given.

The photograph of this candle stand along with the Crucifix appears in the book.

Pair of 17th Century Silver Filigree Candle Holders.
with Boxwood Turnings and Reliefs.

One story is that they were given by Anne of Austria (mother of Louis XIV) to the Carmelite Convent at Pontoise, but M Bimbenet Private states that they were given by Madame Charlotte  Seguier Duchesse de Verneuil in 1767.

This remains to be clarified.

Hopefully I will find some better photographs.

A Possibly Related Casket in the Schell Collection, Graz, Austria.

Silver Filigree Casket in the Schell Collection.

The Schell Museum thought that the plaques were not original and of some sort of fired clay - without close inspection one can never be sure, but I suggest the panels are carved boxwood as in the candlestick above.

Another casket perhaps related to the Schell Casket

In the collection at Burghley House, Lincolnshire.

The inner frame that holds the eight gilt scent bottles and has an oval central compartment could possibly be the ‘Gold Case for Essence Bottles, of philligrin’ mentioned in the 1690 Deed of Gift, or Devonshire Schedule, which records the massive bequest to Anne, Countess of Exeter from her mother, Elizabeth Cavendish, Countess of Devonshire.

The bottles bear the mark of John Chartier, a Huguenot working in London in the 17th Century.

I am very grateful to Jon Culverhouse at Burghley for his assistance with the Filigree Collection at the house.
