An 18th Century Silver Filigree Horn Book 
recently sold by Messrs Reeman Dansie. Colchester.












Silver filigree horn book with printed alphabet, and the Lord's Prayer, the initial O containing a bird, covered by mica, with fine filigree rectangular back and handle, 11cm high.

For similar examples, see Sotheby's, New York, Fine Books and Manuscripts 2, Dec. 2014 - Lot 215. Described as probably English, circa 1750 - 1760. Also Woolley & Wallis, 17th June 2009 - Lot 26

Tuer's History of the Horn Book.






"A silver hornbook that has been stated to have been given by Queen Elizabeth I. to Lord Chancellor Egerton". Apocryphal I suspect!
