Another Indian Silver Filigree Casket.

previously with London Dealer Michael Backman.

I think probably Karimnagar Mid 19th Century.

He suggests 18th century Java / Sumatra, Indonesia but also refers to Silver Wonders of the East....Menshikova etc as possibly Goa.

Hugo Miguel Crespo of Lisbon University has assured me that there is absolutely no evidence of any filigree manufacture in Goa.

The sheet metal on the base suggests to me that this element was made with some sort of roller or machine rather than hand beaten.

Height: 4.6cm, width: 9.5cm, depth: 6.5cm
