All these little frames illustrated here appeared in the auction of Messrs Cambi, Casa d'Asti, Genoa.

It is difficult to date these pieces or to say where they were actually manufactured - the consensus seems to be Genoa, but I suspect that there were other centres of manufacture particularly Naples and Palermo. Stylistically they are similar and use the same techniques as the South German - especially the manufacturers of Schwabisch Gmund.
I will need to do considerably more delving, as at this point I am almost entirely ignorant on the subject of Italian filigree.
