Some 18th Century Indian Silver Filigree at Knole, Kent.

Some 18th Century Indian Silver Filigree at Knole, Kent.

Some thoughts on the toilet mirror etc. The set here attributed to Cuttack, Orissa, India.

The silver filigree here is made of the signature small comma shaped pieces of twisted silver wire typical of Cuttack work.

The set is almost certainly 18th century given the style of the mirror.

There is another similar mirror at Burghley.

Pair of Rosewater Sprinklers.

The Mirror frame uses the same signature comma shaped strands of twisted silver as used in the other pieces in this set, suggesting that it was made in Cuttack, Orissa along wiyth the other pieces.

There appears to be two matching trays, two smaller boxes, and two cups? in the very poor group photograph.

These images were sent to me in 2013.

There is nothing helpful on the National Trust Collection website.

Currently no further information available.

I have contacted Knole and hope to hear back in due course.

The Burghley Silver Filigree Toilet Mirror.

Another view of the same mirror in different light -

It is not immediately obvious whether the Burghley Toilet Mirror is European or Indian -

The feet I believe are European cast silver, which might have been added.

The piece that sent me down this rabbit hole in the first place.

The back perhaps made in Munich by Johann Puchwiser (1680 - 1744)  - The Silver filigree perhaps Johann Jacob Adam.

I will return to it in due course.
