Included here as an early secular use of gold filigree in Holland.
I'm assuming the workmanship is Dutch but it does not necessarily follow and could have been imported.
There are many filigree objects manufactured from the 17th century into the 19th century in the Fries Museum - available - the vast majority are small scale pieces of jewellery which I will leave to others to investigate - the main thrust of this research is into objects made of filigree and to try to clarify where these objects originated.
This is not an easy task as there seems to have been crossovers between Europe ans southern Asia. Hopefully as this work progresses objects with secure early provenances will clarify the situation. To make matters more difficult he vast majority of filigree objects are unmarked.
Because of this situation the identification of objects on line by museums and dealers should mostly be taken with a pinch of salt.
