engraving of Carleton House, small burn hole to one leaf (affecting a few
letters and staining adjacent leaves), close-trimmed (clipping letterpress in a
few places), original faded lilac silk-covered boards, slightly worn and
frayed, with remains of early hand-stitched pink silk cover, contained in a

side of the leaf only (facing versos and rectos), title-page and final leaf
laid down and forming endpapers (as issued), original pale pink silk-covered
boards, lightly marked, hand-painted in white with bands on spine (deficient)
and double-line border and flowers on covers, 'BATH' and '1769' painted in
white on upper and lower cover respectively, contained in a contemporary silver
filigree case with clasp, 52 x 36 mm (2 x 1.5 ins) (Qty: 1)

This example particularly unusual and attractive with its delicate hand-painted
silk binding, presumably executed by the original lady owner.

printed on concertina leaf, several at front adhered together, 9 carat gold
hinged binding with hanging loop and ring, rear cover impressed with hallmark
and maker's mark 'G & H Ltd.', 15 x 15 mm (1 x 1 in), plus two other
miniature books, comprising a blank book in blind panelled calf with raised
bands, gilt tooled 'J & M' in second compartment of spine, inscribed on

Lot 1382. A mid-18th century gilt metal snuff-box, of
waisted rectangular form, the cover set with five enamelled porcelain portrait
plaques within filigree worked border, the frieze chased with C-scrolls, shells
and flowers, plain interior, 7.5cm.
