Silver Filigree Box marked by Adrian Setsen Bogarth, Trondheim

A late 17th/ Early 18th Century Silver Filigree Box with the mark of Adrian Setsen Bogarth, Trondheim.

 c. 1692 - 1708.

Adrian Setsen Bogarth (1660 - 1708).

Father Seth Knutson (1610 - 82) painter.

Trondheim, Norway.

A very unusual piece in that it has the makers mark indented under the base.

4 x 7 x 5.5 cms.

An Indian Silver Filigree Stand,

 An 18th Century Indian Silver Filigree Candle Holder.

Formerly with Joseph Cohen Antiques.

As far as I can gather filigree was not made in Karimnagar before about 1820, but had been produced in Cuttack (Kattack), Orissa probably from the beginning of the 17th Century.

Karimnager pieces are very fine and use the same comma shaped twisted wires between the frames as the Cuttack pieces.

This is possibly and therefore manufactured in Cuttack but comparison with similar pieces make me think 19th century Karimnagar.

The height of both the Bezoar Stone Holder and the Base is 11.2 cm. The height of the Bezoar stone holder is 6 cm. The width of the round top of each section is 4 cm diam. The height of the base is 5.2 cm. The width of the round top of the base is 13 cm. The width between two feet is 16 cm.

I suspect that these items were collected separately and didn't start life together.

The Silver Filigree Dressing Table Set (no sizes given).

The detail of the clasp and the applied pressed leaves leads me to believe that this piece is of English manufacture.

Stylistically very different from the other filigree objects in this collection - It feels more modern to me.

Small Round Box or Case

The applied silver repousse flowers lead me to think that this little box is English.
